People who start vaping always wonder and ask how to fine tune a vape device to find correct wattage to suit them choice of liquid we are all different in tastes preferences or habits.
Fine tuning is required to find what suits you best.
Only way to find your preference is to experiment different styles to see what suits you best.
Some people like an airy draw which suits DTL users ( Direct to Lung ) also for the cloud chasers the more air the bigger the cloud.
Some people like a tighter draw like drawing on a cigarette MTL ( Mouth to Lung ) can still create good cloud depending on air control and how tight or airy your MTL preferences.
And some people prefer RDL ( restricted to lung ) where they use less air control to pull harder into their lungs. More suited for those who like less vapour in a DTL draw.
DTL is where you press fire button or auto inhale depending on device directly into your lungs.
MTL is where you press fire button or auto inhale and hold vapour in mouth before inhaling.
RDL same as DTL only more effort is required with less air .
Each one of these choices work best if you choose the correct coil for your style of vaping.
There is also E-Liquid Composition
High VG this is usually called 70-30 or 80-20 or bottles labelled high VG this is a 90-10 for those who like big clouds but less flavour these liquids are more suitable for high powered devices. Also known as Mods.
As higher wattage consumes more power best suited for devices with external batteries.
The more Balanced e-liquids are
50-50 and 60-40 more suitable for lower wattage devices or 70-30 with a higher wattage with
internal batteries more flavour although good cloud but not as heavy as higher VG.
Best to experiment to find what suits you best and use correct coil choice as higher VG is a thicker liquid and requires thicker coils.
50-50 is an even mix of PG and VG
60-40 can be 60% PG and 40% VG more suited for those who like strong flavours and less cloud. More balanced liquids use thinner coils to suit the thinner e-liquids less wattage and less risk of leakage.
70-30 is 70% VG and 30% PG slightly less flavour more cloud
80-20 more sacrifice for flavours but more cloud.
And high vg 90% VG and 10% PG almost no flavours but huge clouds
These liquids are thicker and requires thicker coils for absorption and wattage.
The more VG less flavours the more PG or Balanced liquid gives stronger flavours
Then there’s different nicotine choice
Salt Nic gives smoother less harsh throat hit
Freebase nicotine gives harsher throat hit.
Coil choice plays a major factor in fine tuning your vape to your preference.
- always check the manufacturer’s specific recommendation for your coil.
| Coil Resistance. | Wattage Range | Vaping Style |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2Ω - 1.8Ω | 7–15 watts | MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) |
| 0.8Ω - 1.0Ω | 12–25 watts | MTL/RDL (Restricted Direct-to-Lung) |
| 0.5Ω - 0.7Ω | 20–30 watts | RDL |
| 0.3Ω - 0.4Ω | 35–60 watts | DTL (Direct-to-Lung) |
| 0.15Ω - 0.2Ω | 60–80+ watts | High-Power DTL |
How to find your ideal wattage
-
Check the recommendation:Always consult the packaging or instructions for the specific coil you are using. This will give you a safe and effective wattage range.
-
Start low: Begin at the lowest recommended wattage setting. This prevents you from burning the cotton in a new coil.
-
Adjust gradually: Increase the wattage by 2–3 watts at a time and take a few puffs to test the vapor, flavor, and temperature.
-
Listen to your vape: If you experience a “dry hit”—an unpleasant, burnt taste—the wattage is too high. If the vapor is weak or the e-liquid is “spitting,” the wattage may be too low.
-
Find your “sweet spot”: Continue adjusting until you find the perfect balance of warmth, vapor, and flavor for your taste.
Happy Vaping.
