Hey flavour fam!
Welcome back to another Flavour 101 dropâyour go-to spot for learning more about whatâs actually in your vape juice and how to enjoy it safely.
This week, weâre diving into a super important topic:
Which ingredients should you avoid in vape juice?
While most reputable vape juices are made from food-safe and inhalation-tested ingredients, not all are created equal. Some additives or compounds might taste good, but could pose risks when vaporized.
Ingredients to Watch Out For:
1. Diacetyl
This oneâs infamousâa buttery flavoring once found in popcorn and dessert vapes. While itâs safe to eat, inhaling it may cause bronchiolitis obliterans (aka âpopcorn lungâ).
Look for labels that say âDiacetyl-free.â
2. Acetoin & Acetyl Propionyl
Closely related to diacetyl, these chemicals are often used as substitutes, but they may carry similar respiratory risks. If your juice says âbutteryâ or âcreamy,â double-check the ingredient list.
3. Oil-Based Flavorings (e.g. essential oils, vitamin E acetate)
Never vape oil. Oils are for diffusers and skinânot your lungs. Inhaling them can cause lipoid pneumonia, which is no joke.
Especially avoid DIY juices using essential oils.
4. Food Coloring / Artificial Dyes
They may look cool, but they donât contribute to flavor and can produce unknown byproducts when heated. Stick to clear or naturally tinted juices.
5. Too Much Sweetener
While sweeteners can make flavors pop, overuse can cause coil gunk and residue buildup, which affects flavor quality and device longevity.
Pro Tips for Safer Vaping:
- Read the label â reputable brands list ingredients clearly.
- Do your research â look for lab reports or third-party testing.
- Stick with trusted brands â especially if youâre using a pod system like VAPORESSOâs XROS or LUXE series.
- Clear > Cloudy â clear e-liquids are often cleaner and less gunky.
