Hey UV fam!
I’ve been experimenting with DIY e-liquids lately, but there’s a problem—vape-specific flavor concentrates are hard to find in my area. This got me thinking: Can I just use regular food flavorings instead?
I did some digging online, but the info is all over the place:
- Some say food-grade and vape flavorings are basically the same, just marketed differently.
- Others claim vape flavors contain special chemicals (like acetyl propionyl or acetoin) to withstand heat better.
- A few even warn about potential health risks when inhaling certain food additives.
Honestly, I’m torn. On one hand, food flavorings are easier to get and cheaper. On the other, I don’t want to risk vaping something unsafe.
So, my question to you all:
- Has anyone here successfully used food flavorings in DIY e-juice?
- Any specific brands or types that worked (or failed miserably)?
- Any health concerns I should know about?

Hi Andre here is a link to what’s added to these flavours also you must take into account what your using for the flavours before adding acetone, Triacetin, Ethyl Alcohol ect and measures have to be spot on.

Thank u so much my friend! Very detailed instructions
Although I haven’t tried it, I don’t think you can use food flavorings directly.

It depends on what food flavouring you use. A lot of them are oil based, which is as you guessed correctly, very dangerous as its not safe to inhale.
But a lot of flavourings specially for icecream are completely safe to use in vaping. I always recommend trying to hook up with your local vape scene and see where they buy their flavourings. Most of them have a site or a store that sells food grade flavours for icecream on paper, but are actually meant for DIY vaping.
Its how we do it here in the Netherlands after they banned vape flavours.
People here buy tasteless eliquid with nicotine and buy the flavors online.
I found these on Amazon perfect for adding flavours to your D-I-Y e-liquids.as BallZak has correctly pointed out this type of flavouring is perfectly safe for vapes .
All you would need is bottles of pg-vg nic shots use online calculator for mixing ratio then add little amounts of flavours at a time to get desired Taste , or buy flavourless pg-vg with nic added just add flavours as BallZak suggested.
