There is many theories thoughts and ideas and advice in how to guide new vapers in the transition from smoking to vaping.
In the Uk we have TPD laws a nic level of 20mg as I am sure with many other countries,
So here is my take on it,
Many theories and advice out there is based on old vaping style when vaping was introduced to aid or help those wishing to quit smoking.
It is outdated at least here in the UK
Or countries with same TPD and nicotine laws.
I also created a topic a while back based on old info for advice for beginners. So this is an updated version.
The times have changed vaping has evolved and new laws in countries banning disposable vapes with high nicotine levels,
But due to the explosion of the popularity of disposable vapes e-liquid flavours improved, we have a wider variety double concentrated e-liquids made for pods ect,
First question a new vaper asks “ which device do I choose?”.
My answer is simple as first device you have no experience in other types a no fuss pod device it’s mostly all pod devices nowadays
But a great example would be the Xcross 5
With its auto draw like puffing on a cigarette the fast charging the easy adjust air control the auto detect coil for wattage makes things simple for those stepping into the vaping world a lot easier than when we started vaping having to learn wattage ect.
Next question “ how much nicotine do I need ?”
And this is were the changes are for advice to new vapers,
Old Advice would advise 3-6mg for smokers 10 or less a day
12mg for those who smoked at least 20 a day and 18mg heavy smokers
For us in the UK I’m not sure the rest of the world you cannot get 6mg 12mg or 18mg vape juice anymore. Unless you DIY your juice for a new vaper this would add more confusion.
Shortfill bottles of freebase e-liquid but only allow space for two nic shots to be added,
This results in only a maximum of 3mg or 5mg in nic strength not like the old days.
Longfill bottles of e-liquid also known as shake and vape is a type of e-liquid concentrate that allows users to customise by adding pg-vg and nic
typically in a 60ml bottle containing 20-30ml flavour concentrate where you could achieve 12mg nic levels
So you need DIY your e-liquid to achieve 12mg Nic levels
Then there is the 10ml salt nic e- liquids that grew in popularity due to disposable vapes as the flavours are the almost same you get in a disposable these are 5mg -10mg and 20mg nic strength.
So the new advice is .
5mg nic salt or 3mg Shortfill for those who smoked 10 or less a day
10mg nic salt or 6mg longfill for those who smoked at least 20 a day
Or 20mg nic salt or 12mg longfill
But to achieve the 6mg - 12 mg you’d have to DIY your e-liquid
But all this is confusing to a new vaper
It’s mind boggling
My advice I’d give is try 10mg nic salt
regardless how much you used to smoke if you feel sick or queezy drop to 5mg if you still have cig cravings increase to 20mg it is that simple.
New vapers have it easy there used to be only freebase nic was harsher tougher on the throat you can still get it, but now there is nic salt where it creates better flavour smoother throat hit and absorbs faster.
3rd question from a new vaper “which flavour should I choose”
There is many theories out there try tobacco flavour if a ex menthol smoker try menthol some say fruit each person taste buds are different and you don’t want to put a new vaper off before he/she gets feet wet so to speak.
When I started vaping years ago following old advice I tried tobacco as figuring tobacco would be like cigarettes yuck poo it tasted like a murky caramel nothing like tobacco so I tried menthol omg it’s nothing like in the cigarette more like a decongestant it was too strong menthol cigarettes there’s only a hint of menthol.
So lessons learned new vapers should avoid anything related to smoking it only makes you want to smoke to settle your nerves.
My advice “ do you like coffee?”.
9 out of 10 reply I can’t start my morning without my coffee the odd ones say no don’t like coffee
For those who do I’d suggest a nice ice caramel Macchiato or any nice coffee flavour out there as there is a wide array of brands making them
e-liquids have improved over the years and actually taste like coffee.
For those who don’t hmm ok fruit
I’d suggest a nice grape thanks to orangegrape on here who steered me towards this juice,
Also more a symbolic reason of choice lol if you get sick and need a short stay in a hospital your visitors bring grapes then sit and eat them lol
That way you can have grape and keep it for yourself
It’s about finding a flavour they like without putting them off to get started taking it slow and keeping it low and let those soft clouds flow
First vaping should be a slow MTL take in mouth hold it then slow inhale then release at least until they stop coughing not try smoking like a cigarette.
Which I have to add if choosing the Xcross 5 it comes supplied with 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm the 0.6ohm is preinstalled id suggest they switch to the 0.8ohm for first time use as the 0.8 ohm is 12-16 watts the 0.6 ohm is 20-30 watts.
And I would avoid explaining the different pods available for this device
As it’s all confusing enough until they understand the basics of vaping.
