If you’re looking to make the switch from smoking to vaping, then it’s only understandable you might be wondering where to start. Identifying the right strength of nicotine for you is vital for a smooth transition. There’s also the consistency of your E-Liquid (PG/VG ratio) and what vape kit you intend or best to use, So, let’s take a look at the basics…

  1. 0mg - nicotine-free.
  2. 3mg-5mg - low concentration.
  3. 6mg-10mg - low to medium concentration.
  4. 10 -17mg - medium to high concentration.
  5. 18-20mg - high concentration.

Nicotine is a chemical compound derived from the tobacco plant. It can also be found naturally in many vegetables such as potatoes and aubergine, and fruits like tomato, although only in very small amounts. Over the years it has also been possible to even create synthetic nicotine in labs. It is one of the main parts of E-Liquid. The majority of which are available in strengths of 0mg (nicotine-free), 3mg, 6mg, 12mg up to 20mg; the legal maximum strength in the UK.

Nicotine Salts are the revolutionary step to creating the perfect E-Liquid for helping smokers quit. This product is created from taking Freebase (regular) Nicotine and adding an acid (such as Benzoic or Citric acid) to balance the pH, creating more neutral nicotine that provides a gentler throat hit. Because of the balancing of the pH done to the nicotine to create the Nicotine Salts, higher strengths of nicotine can be achieved and be enjoyed without treating your throat to a harsh hit.

For those who are looking to quit smoking and used to get through a few cigarettes a day (anything from 3-10), it is suggested starting on either 3mg or 6mg of nicotine. These low-level strengths of vape juice will still give you a slight nicotine buzz while not being too strong or too weak to be noticed.

Average smokers who are likely to get through a pack a day are more likely to benefit from 12mg nicotine. This strength is likely to keep away the nicotine cravings but might start to feel a little harsh if you are using regular nicotine E-Liquids. Nicotine Salts Provide a smoother vape.

Those that are likely to get through more than a pack of 20 a day and smoke a lot, will probably benefit from an 18-20mg strength. Again, this strength in regular freebase nicotine can be a little harsh for some. This is why 20mg nic salts are perfect for providing high nicotine strengths whilst being friendly on your throat

On average, a cigarette contains around 10 to 12mg of nicotine but you’re unlikely to inhale all of this as it burns. You’re more likely to inhale around 1.1 to 1.8mg of nicotine by the end of a cigarette – so if you smoked 20 cigarettes you would likely inhale around 22 to 36mg of nicotine.

E-liquids often come in various ratios of PG/VG - the higher the PG ratio, the stronger the flavour and throat sensation, whereas a higher VG ratio means bigger clouds of vapour.

VG-PG
50-50 moderate clouds, moderate throat hit.

60-40 Good clouds smoother throat hit.

70-30 larger clouds Minimal throat hit.

80-20 Massive clouds Barely noticeable throat hit.

Recommended devices
Vapresso Pod series best suited for 50-50 and 60-40 liquid ratios
Such as the new Apex kit,Vibe Series,Nano,Xcross Series,Lux Series,Zero Series & Eco series

Vapresso Mod series best suited
For Liquid Ratios 70-30 & 80-20 liquid ratios
But can still use other mixes 50-50 ect due to higher Wattage
Armour Series,Gen Series & Target Series.

The Vapresso Xcross Pro and Vaperessos Xcross 4 Nano with 0.4ohm pod up to 30 watts the
Vapresso Lux series up to 40 watts the Lux XR Max up to 80 watts can use liquids up to 70-30

it is recommended liquids 70-30 and above best used in mod series due to not having to use at max power draining your Battery.

Hopefully this guide helps you in the transition from the stinkies.

If I missed anything or you have something to add please reply.

Best wishes.

I’m going to step out on a limb here and show my ignorance. Is there any way to tell the PG/VG ratio in an e-liquid or salt nice you buy online? I haven’t found a way to do that yet. Maybe I’m just missing it. And if I do find a VG/PG ratio in an e-liquid I like can I buy the short-fill bottles put the e-liquid or salt nic in it and then add more nic if I need to? The nic levels are clearly indicated but VG/PG ratios don’t seem to be.
Sometimes I really like an e-liquid flavor but can’t find it in a salt nic with higher nicotine levels. So I’m just curious if I can do that kind of mixing. I’m really limited on capabilities and space as I live in a studio apartment type situation in a facility for us old fogey’s in the US called an Assisted Living Facility or some might call it an old folks home. I have almost no space and I’m very limited on what I can do when it comes to mixing. Any guidance you can give is greatly appreciated.

Hi shasta on your shortfill bottle it should have ratio on label if shopping online look in description where it describes flavour it should have mix ratio there as your aware most shortfills/longfills only allow 20ml = x 2 10ml shots to be added restricting your desired strength but if you empty the contents from the shortfill into a bigger bottle you can add as many nic shots you require to get the nic strength you desire. Always stick to ratio if you buy 50-50 liquid ask for your nic shots at 50-50 Hope this helps
