Sweet E-Liquids Turn Bitter Faster? Let’s Investigate!

Hey guys! :face_with_monocle: I’ve noticed something weird lately: the sweeter my e-liquid, the quicker it seems to develop a bitter/burnt taste —even with fresh coils! After some testing, I’ve got theories (but need your insights too).
Why it happens? I did some research on google:
:one: Sweetener Build-Up : Super-sweet juices (like desserts/candies) often contain sucralose , which caramelizes on coils faster and gunkes them up.
:two: Cotton Degradation : Sweeteners can “coat” cotton, reducing its absorption ability and leading to dry hits.
:three: Heat Sensitivity : Some flavor compounds in sweet liquids may break down at high temps, creating off-flavors.

Here is my temporary fixing methods (but it is not very useful):

  • Lower wattage (less heat = slower sweetener burn-off).
  • Use darker/less sweet juices between sweet sessions.
  • Clean coils more often (or opt for easy-rebuildables).

But… am I crazy? Do you experience this too?

  • What’s your go-to trick for keeping sweet juices fresh longer?
  • Any brands that avoid sweeteners but still taste great?

Share your wisdom! Let’s crack this sugar code together. :candy::fire:

I tend to stick with clear juices so as you notice the colour change in tank or pod as an early warning system you then know your coil is gunked up before the burnt taste as the brown caramelisation around coil changes clear liquid brown I use the puff counter on each coil when it reaches 2000 puffs I change regardless if coils good or not as it’s generally about to fail

I never use coils at max recommended wattage always 5 to 7 watts lower than max they seem to last longer.

Thank you Eddie, counting puffs is a good way to avoid burnt~~~
