How Often Should You Change Your Vape Coil?

Your vape coil is one of the most important components of your device. It’s the engine that heats up your e-liquid and turns it into the flavorful vapor you enjoy. But like all things, vape coils don’t last forever. So—how often should you change your vape coil?

Most vapers change their coils every 7 to 14 days. However, this depends on a few factors like your vaping habits, the type of e-liquid you use, and your device’s wattage. Heavy vapers or those using sweet or high-VG e-liquids may need to replace coils more frequently.

:police_car_light: Signs Your Coil Needs Replacing

Not sure if it’s time for a change? Look out for these telltale signs:

  • Burnt or Unpleasant Taste – The most obvious indicator. If your vape tastes burnt or dry, your coil is likely done.
  • Reduced Vapor Production – Less cloud? Your coil might be clogged or worn out.
  • Gurgling Sounds or Leaking – Worn coils can cause inconsistent heating and excess condensation.
  • E-liquid Tastes Different – When flavors lose their richness or taste off, it’s often due to coil degradation.

:brain: Pro Tips to Make Coils Last Longer

  • Prime your coil properly before use – let it soak in e-liquid for 5–10 minutes.
  • Use e-liquids with less sweetener, as sweeteners gunk up coils faster.
  • Avoid chain vaping – give your coil time to reabsorb e-liquid between puffs.
  • Vape at recommended wattage levels – don’t push your coil harder than it’s built for.

:gear: Why Changing Coils Matters

Old or burnt coils can ruin your vaping experience—not just in taste, but also in safety. Using a worn-out coil can cause overheating, poor performance, or even damage your device over time. Replacing your coil regularly ensures a smoother hit, better flavor, and a longer-lasting vape setup.

I used to have a routine of changing coils weekly but as you pointed out the juices used can shorten lifespan and sometimes just throwing away good coils as sometimes coils preform better after used for a while,

So now I wait till taste is muted and if using tanks can see the clear liquids change colour to dark yellow or brown this is an indication to me to change .
