1963: The Very First E-Cigarette Design

If you’re wondering when the first e-cigarettes were invented, you might be surprised about how long ago it actually was! In 1963, a man named Herbert A Gilbert, well aware of the health implications of smoking tobacco, filed a patent for an electronic smoking device Sadly for Herbert, cigarettes were very much a part of everyday life in the 60’s and were widely accepted in the office, restaurants, aeroplanes - in almost all public places, even university classrooms! Unfortunately, Herbert’s idea was before it’s time and there wasn’t a market for his device.

Then 40 years later was created with a pioneering Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik in 2003 after losing his father to lung cancer as people became more aware of the damaging effects of tobacco
with the first ones being introduced in the UK in 2005 and then into the American market in 2007.

In 2008, the World Health Organisation declared that e cigarettes were not to be marketed as a smoking cessation aid however did not offer any suggestion towards whether they had a positive or negative effect, which paved the way for their continued popularity. Today, it’s estimated that over 3.1 million people are using e cigarettes in the UK alone.

And with the smoking ban in public places pub/bars clubs ect in 2006 in Scotland and 2007 in England it made people feel guilty smoking in public and being isolated for those who couldn’t quit the cigarettes switched to vaping. As the patches hypnotherapy ect seemed to fail or were to costly.

And is now supported by the NHS as an aid to quit smoking. In the UK.

Then the vaping industry has exploded with many creations mods, pods rdas, sub ohm ect ,

Now it seems to have become more stagnant and trying to keep it a more interesting with slimline devices pods and pre-filled pods higher nicotine when a standard cigarette only contains 10 to 12 mg nicotine and most burns off between puffs and only 12 mg is recommended for those wishing to quit when switching to vape now there is 20 mg to 50 mg salt nicotine strengths on disposable vapes more and more liquid capacity in these devices people becoming more addicted to vape than cigarettes more flavours hitting the market and more development on fancy themes on screen and art how it looks on outside Bluetooth ect trying to ad more to cater more for younger generation and encourage more under age users due to how it looks in reality putting more pressure on the battery enclosed.

This to me will cause a lot of these vaping companies to fade away in time as the domino effect hits each country with these bans and give the big failing tobacco companies who is already under pressure from governments to obtain more loopholes to exploit and put pressure on our governments to ban vapes.

It seems to have lost the main reason why vape was invented , we are now seeing the mod device being faded out tanks are getting harder to obtain more in favour of pod devices it’s like the old pubs/bars being turned into wine bars .

Instead of just focusing on more how it looks focus more on coil development for flavours and longevity of coil the ease of use of devices the battery capacity on improving what’s proved to be a great devices already why keep changing it to suit younger and underage users ? . Stick to its main purpose in helping people quit the cigarettes.

Give the countries less excuses to find reasons to initiate these bans.
