I’ve recently noticed the lack of vaping in movies and TV shows, even though it’s so popular in real life now. We see people vaping everywhere—on the street, in cafes, at parties—but when it comes to cinema or TV, it’s rare to see it make an appearance. Smoking has a long history in films, often used to convey mood, attitude, or even rebellion. Think about how iconic some smoking scenes are, where just lighting up a cigarette tells us something about the character or the situation.
Vaping, however, seems to be slow in getting the same treatment. Sure, there are some scenes out there, but nothing as memorable or widespread as smoking. Maybe it’s because vaping is still seen as new and hasn’t yet become part of the “cinematic language” like smoking has over the years. Or maybe filmmakers just don’t know how to use it visually in the same way they use cigarettes.
