Hey guys
Lately I’ve been curious about something we often overlook: Is the nicotine in e-cigarettes the same as the one in traditional tobacco?
After digging around online, here’s what stood out to me:
Chemical Form :
- Cigarettes contain freebase nicotine , which is more alkaline and can feel harsher on the throat, especially at higher strengths.
- Most e-liquids (especially salt nicotine versions) use nicotine salts , derived from tobacco leaves but smoothed with organic acids. This makes it gentler on the throat even at high concentrations.
Absorption & Experience :
- Nicotine salts (like in pods/salts) enter the bloodstream faster—similar to the “rush” from a cigarette.
- Freebase nicotine (common in sub-ohm liquids) absorbs slower and is often used for cloud chasing or gradual satisfaction.
But Here’s the Catch :
While nicotine itself is addictive, it’s the thousands of other chemicals and tar in combustible cigarettes that cause most of the harm. Vaping removes the combustion—but that doesn’t mean it’s risk-free, especially with unregulated products or improper use.
So, what do you think?
- Have you noticed a difference when switching from smoking to vaping?
- Do you prefer salts or freebase—and why?
- Any myths or facts about nicotine you’d like to share?
