Hey everyone, total newbie here. I’ve been a pack-a-day smoker for years and I’m seriously considering making the switch to vaping. I keep hearing that it’s “less harmful” because there’s no combustion/tar, but I’m trying to figure out what that looks like in real life vs marketing.
For those who went from smoking to vaping:
-
Did you notice any changes in breathing, coughing, stamina, or how you feel day to day?
-
How long did it take to notice a difference (if any)?
-
Any side effects I should watch out for (dry mouth, chest tightness, etc.)?
-
What nicotine levels helped you manage cravings without overdoing it?
Not looking for medical advice—just personal experiences and general info. I know quitting nicotine entirely is the healthiest option, but if vaping is a legit harm-reduction step, I’d rather try that than keep lighting up.
If you have reputable sources or studies you trust (Cochrane reviews, public health reports, etc.), I’d love to read them. Also curious if there are differences in rules/quality between the US/EU that matter for health.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a common question—trying to do my homework before jumping in.

Hi Cobalt ok answering your question Vaping is more healthier than smoking as cigarettes contain nicotine-tar- and other harmful chemicals
Vapes contain food grade flavouring & PG propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerine (VG)
The NHS in England had reported that vaping is 95% safer than smoking
Here is an extract of that report Key findings of the review include:
-
the current best estimate is that e-cigarettes are around 95% less harmful than smoking
-
nearly half the population (44.8%) don’t realise e-cigarettes are much less harmful than smoking
your nicotine guide for your e-liquid
this can be reduced over time when you feel less dependent ( craving ) of the nasty tobacco so then easier to even quit vaping not trading one habit for another.
it has been proven switching to vaping is one of the best ways to quit the nasty cigs but like all quit smoking aids it takes willpower and determination to quit the stinkies.
Heath wise hmm vaping isn’t the same as going to the gym for a physical workout to get fit but is a lot healthier than smoking your tastebuds improve your sense of smell returns no morning coughing no smelling like a dirty old ashtray your overall feeling of wellbeing improves and that overall feeling of achievement you finally quit the stinkies.

The real danger of smoking isn’t just nicotine—it’s the countless toxic chemicals created by burning tobacco. This is why vaping is considered a much healthier option.
