Built-in vs. external battery for my first dtl mod?

I’m looking to get into higher watt vaping and pick up my first mod for dtl vaping. Still a bit unsure about battery choice though. I’ve seen people say using external batteries with a separate charger can extend battery life overall. Is there any truth to that? I’m stuck between the armour ultra (5500mAh built-in, 100W) and the armour gs (external 18650, 80W). Both seem like small, lightweight choices since I’m not looking for a massive “Max” version for my daily carry. For a first dtl setup, would you go built-in or external battery? Pros and cons?

If longer lasting battery power is your objective I’d say the built in Armour ultra Endurance for fuss free and convenience. And it’s looks,

With Ultra Endurance, its powerful 5500mAh mega battery provides battery life close to that of two 18650 batteries

But things to consider

advantage of external batteries is you can change on the go when outdoors providing your carrying spare batteries

Where as if internal built in battery you’d have to wait to charge device.

Over time batteries degrade and lose capacity through use and charging so it’s easier to replace external batteries this can give a device longer life.as opposed to a built in battery device. But through experience and use I’ve not seen or experienced any degradation of internal battery of the armour g devices I’ve used over past year or two.

but with a 5500mah your unlikely to have a low battery if charged daily but if vaping at high wattage. It can drain quicker.

Typical 18650 batteries have capacities ranging from 1800 mAh to 3500 mAh per battery

High drain vs High Capacity Batteries designed for high-drain devices (like vape mods or power tools) usually have lower capacities (1800mAh-2500mAh) compared to high-capacity cells (3000-3500mAh) designed for long-lasting applications (like flashlights).

However most newer vape mods take the 21700 batteries some only take one and some can take 2 of these batteries.

21700 vape batteries typically offer a capacity between 3000 mah to 5000 mah, per battery providing significantly longer battery life and higher discharge rates (often 30A-45A) than 18650 batteries. Popular high-performance models include 4000mAh-4200mAh cells for high-wattage vaping

Then there’s the added weight and size the Ultra Endurance is light and compact 100 watt device uses a tank with a 510 connection allowing you to experiment with other tanks and rdas ect,

The armour Gs is also lightweight and takes one single 1860 battery max wattage of 80 watts uses a pod 3-5ml capacity

Other mod devices you should look at are

  • Armour Max: A rugged, heavy-duty unit that supports dual 21700 or 18650 batteries (with included adapters) and fires up to 220W.

  • Gen Max: A tech-focused, lightweight mod that uses dual 18650 batteries and reaches 220W.

  • Gen 200: A popular, compact dual-battery mod using two 18650 batteries.

    hope this helps.
