Why it’s good to support Brick and Mortar

Supporting local brick-and-mortar vape shops is beneficial for several important reasons—both for the individual customer and the wider community. Here’s a detailed explanation:

  1. Expert Advice and Personalised Service

Local vape shops often provide knowledgeable, face-to-face customer service that online retailers can’t match. Staff are usually experienced vapers themselves and can offer:
• Guidance for beginners on choosing the right device or nicotine strength
• Help troubleshooting technical issues
• Tailored product recommendations based on individual preferences

This personalised support can improve your vaping experience and reduce frustration, especially for those trying to quit smoking.

  1. Boosting the Local Economy

Shopping locally means your money stays in your community. Independent vape shops:
• Create jobs for local residents
• Pay local taxes, which support public services
• Often source stock from UK-based distributors and brands

A thriving high street strengthens the local economy and helps small towns and cities remain vibrant.

  1. Safer, Regulated Products

Reputable vape shops are far more likely to sell legitimate, TPD-compliant products (within the UK and EU). This means:
• Devices and e-liquids meet safety and quality standards
• Nicotine strengths and ingredients are accurately labelled
• There’s a lower risk of buying counterfeit or dangerous goods

This is especially important with the rising concern over illegal vapes found in some convenience stores or sold online.

  1. Building a Sense of Community

Vape shops often serve as hubs for the vaping community. They host:
• Product launches and flavour testing events
• Quit-smoking support groups
• Informal social gatherings

This supportive environment can help people stay off cigarettes, feel connected, and keep up to date with safer, smarter vaping practices.

  1. Supporting Ethical Business Practices

Independent vape stores usually operate with more care for the long-term health of their customers and the image of the industry. Unlike some large retailers or corner shops:
• They don’t usually sell to underage customers
• They educate people on responsible vaping
• They’re often advocates for harm reduction and vaping rights

Supporting ethical businesses helps protect the integrity of vaping as a smoking cessation tool—not just a quick cash grab.

In Summary:

Supporting local vape shops means getting better advice, safer products, and stronger communities. It keeps money circulating locally, helps people quit smoking safely, and promotes a responsible vaping culture.

I wholeheartedly agree in supporting local vape shops but it would depend on which type of local vape shop you have near you

As stated on previous post I shop online I get great discount and free next day delivery. And get what I need.

I go to my local vape shop where they don’t sell coils in packs they sell individually at £2.50 a coil
So works out £12.50 for 5 coils in a plastic bag all loose instead of 5 sealed coils in proper packet for £8.99 they never have the juice I want so end up with something else at extortionate prices and the devices they sell are overpriced it’s not just about the money but principles why go to a shop knowing I’m gonna be overcharged.

I do feel bad though for the local honest vape shops as online shopping is becoming more popular

And if I had a honest local vape shop I would only be to happy in supporting them even if I was paying a little bit more

But sadly online shopping wins for me in this situation.

I fully agree, that some vape shops simply take advantage of their customers (coils are so much easier to sell in packets, rather than individually so they’re definitely out for just profit there), however there are smaller vape shops online as well, so even if you can’t find a shop local to you, where you can support your own high-street shop due to the selections there (which I fully agree, it’s not always possible to get everything from the same place), you can always look for other vape shops in the area/county rather than defaulting to amazon/washington-vapes etc. No, price wise, smaller vape shops can’t compete with the warehouse-only ‘vape shops’, but 9 times out of 10, the experience is so much better and you might find some hidden gems.

Does your shop have a website ?. Andra.

The reason I ask this is most vape shops have websites nowadays

So if buying from your website or marks shop website your still supporting your local shop the same way your wearing out your shoe leather in actually going into the bricks and mortar shop.

I agree it is better going into an actual shop and speaking to a real person for advice and seeing the goods before purchasing if it’s a decent trustworthy shop.

The websites I use have actual shops so they still making sales either way and shopping online gives you a chance to browse more at your leisure without sales pressure at a time that suits when shops closed no nasty surprises at end when see total balance before purchasing and can amend if total balance too high.

These small vape shops who have websites have invested to boost business buying web space paying for website designers paying or subscribing to services that take payments for your goods

So buying from them online or in shop your still supporting them regardless in how you shop.

That’s my take on it :joy:

we do have a website yes. My understanding was, specially as you mentioned ‘5 sealed coils in proper packet for £8.99,’ sounds like you shop in Amazon/Washington Vapes types of shops. Apologies, if I misunderstood, and you do find other smaller shops to support

I like shopping in physical stores because I don’t buy a lot or frequently, so the discounts on online shopping are not that attractive to me. One of the main reasons why I like physical stores is that I think it is an offline social space. In the process of communicating with other vapers or store owners, I can always learn new knowledge or information.
