It’s almost time for our government to ban the disposables.
As an ex-smoker who switched to vaping because the NHS supported it, I’ve got mixed feelings.
Walk past any secondary school and you’ll see Year 9s puffing on Elf Bars like they’re Tic Tacs. And don’t get me started on the piles of dead disposables clogging up parks - a bloody disgrace.
Disposables are cheap, easy and low-commitment - perfect for newbies testing the waters. Now, if someone wants to quit smoking, they’ll have to shell out £30+ upfront for a refillable kit. How many will just say “sod it” and stick to smoking?
Banning things doesn’t make them go away. Look at THC vapes - already illegal, yet every dodgy corner shop sells them. Disposables will go the same way: unregulated, unsafe and still in kids’ pockets.
The NHS still says vaping is 95% safer than smoking. So why are we making it harder for adults to access the very tool that’s helped millions quit? If the aim is public health, why not ban cigarettes first? Oh, right - £10 billion a year in tax revenue. Funny.
I’ll stick with my refillable, thank you. But this ban feels like punishing the whole class for a few kids throwing paper airplanes. We’re protecting the environment and teenagers, sure - but what about the 6 million smokers still stuck on death sticks?
Do you agree? Or am I just grumbling into my PG/VG cloud?
I agree to an extent banning the disposables due to amount discarded on our streets , parks and general waste but kids who get hold of them will still vape regardless even if they switch to refillable how can they control it, it is not like shops can say pay an additional deposit on first vape so you need return it for a new one to control the waste issue and I feel in time it will have a knock off effect if they do manage to completely ban the disposables then refillable sales will rise pre filled rechargeable devices will rise and e- liquid sales will rise and so forth as sales and use for disposable vapes is enormous so then the government will need to implement tighter controls like some other countries banning flavoured e- liquids . And to add disposals are getting more expensive as they advance in technology so cost is not a factor like getting the latest trend in clothing .
Ugh, this ban is such a mindless one-size-fits-all move. Politicians never bother digging into the actual root of the problem—half-assed quick fixes are basically their go-to move. Band-Aid on a broken bone vibes, honestly.
All this legislation around vaping infuriates me. Too many addicted young people and potential long term harm. However, cigarettes are never banned even though they are proven killers. Goes to show that none of this is about health and just $$$.
Big tobacco wins again, laws around cigarettes are so embarrassing. It’s 2024. We know the EXACT health problems concerning smoking. Ban it all.
When you think back we were a nation of smokers then they started banning smoking in public places and vapes were created there was so much hype on smoking in public people felt guilty and started to vape then came disposables and boom the market grew now the ban on disposables as possible due to tobacco companies not making enough losing trade and hope to win ppl back or it’s the companies who make the gum or patches putting on pressure and use any excuse to implement these bans making out it’s for the publics interest
