Itâs that time of year againâthe streets are lit up, shops are playing âLast Christmasâ on loop, and everyoneâs making lists. But this year, I want to shift focus from the shopping lists and party invites back to what Christmas truly means: the art of giving .
My âGiving Listâ looks a little different this year:
- Giving my parents 2 hours of undivided attention (the phone-silent kind)
- Handwriting a card to a friend, no copy-paste holiday messages
- Offering a warm smile and a sincere âHappy Holidaysâ to a stranger
- Giving myself a quiet evening to finally read that book I bought six months ago
What Iâve come to realize:
The best gifts often donât have price tags.
Theyâre time, attention, and that âI intentionally saved this space for youâ feeling.
My small rituals this holiday season:
- Mulled Wine Night : Inviting neighbors over for homemade mulled wine
- Gift Upcycling : Wrapping presents with fabric from old sweaters
- Christmas Soundscape : Recording festive sounds around the cityâchurch bells, childrenâs laughter, street musicians
The magic of Christmas isnât in Santaâs sleighâitâs in:
- The Christmas tree doodled on your coffee cup by the barista
- Strangers helping each other carry bags on the subway
- Coming home late to the soft glow of your little Christmas tree in the living room
This Christmas, what do you want to give? And what warmth do you hope to receive?
Maybe the most precious gift is rediscovering the beauty of human connection.
