I have been vaping for two years and I love that vaping is becoming more and more popular. But as the number of new users is growing, I think it’s important to have a guidebook on how to vape respectfully. So here it is.
If smoking is not allowed, vaping is not allowed either, unless it is specifically stated that vaping is allowed.
Saying “it’s just vapour” doesn’t make it okay. If a business, city, campus or event doesn’t allow smoking, then vaping is probably not allowed either.
If there is a designated smoking area, use it. Smoking areas are places where you can smoke. If you are not allowed to smoke where you are, you can use the smoking area.
Don’t vape where children are.
I thought this was obvious, but many parents don’t want their kids to see or breathe in the vapor from vaping. And no, you can’t talk to them about whether second-hand vapes are safe. Just don’t vape near or around children.
If you are in an area with a lot of kids, find a place to vape that isn’t around them or where they won’t see you. They don’t need to know, and their parents don’t need to know either.
Don’t sneak a puff or ‘do the door breath’.
If you really need to vape, go somewhere you can do it without having to hide. You’re not sneaky, and the cloud in your backpack and the suddenly fruity-smelling aisle prove it.
Don’t slam the door when you come in. You’ll just breathe all that air out in the shop.
Also, don’t force the door open too hard. If you do, you’ll bring in the vapour inside.
Try to control your vapour as much as you can.
Thanks to u/foreverzzv for suggesting this.
You need to be aware of where your vapour is going if you’re in a busy area, like a bus stop or a long queue. Breathe in the air, but not too close to other people. If there is a lot of wind, step away so that it doesn’t blow the air into other people. It just takes a few steps away to keep your vapour away.
I’m sure I missed some, but this is what I came up with after seeing people at the weekend. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to add or change.
