A Decade with The 1975

Not sure if it’s the weather, or just one of those nostalgic moods, but I’ve been looping The 1975 again — and honestly, it still hits like the first time.

I first stumbled across Chocolate back in college, scrolling through YouTube when I should’ve been writing papers. It felt like the soundtrack to a life I wanted — reckless, dreamy, maybe a little blurry around the edges. Fast forward almost ten years, and now I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) and Part of the Band have crept into late-night walks and quiet weekend mornings.

There’s something about the way their music grows with you. It went from party anthems in the dorm to existential bops during 2 a.m. existential spirals. Matty’s lyrics are chaotic and messy and poetic in the most millennial way, and I kinda love that.

It’s wild how a band can be a time capsule — each album reminds me who I was when I first heard it. If you’ve been riding the wave with them too, you get it. If not — maybe now’s the time to dive in.
