# Nicotine in Vapes vs Cigarettes – What’s the Real Difference?

Hey guys 💨 Lately I’ve been curious about something we often overlook: **Is the nicotine in e-cigarettes the same as the one in traditional tobacco?**

After digging around online, here’s what stood out to me:

🔹 **Chemical Form** :

- Cigarettes contain **freebase nicotine** , which is more alkaline and can feel harsher on the throat, especially at higher strengths.
- Most e-liquids (especially salt nicotine versions) use **nicotine salts** , derived from tobacco leaves but smoothed with organic acids. This makes it gentler on the throat even at high concentrations.

🔹 **Absorption & Experience** :

- Nicotine salts (like in pods/salts) enter the bloodstream faster—similar to the “rush” from a cigarette.
- Freebase nicotine (common in sub-ohm liquids) absorbs slower and is often used for cloud chasing or gradual satisfaction.

🔹 **But Here’s the Catch** :  
While nicotine itself is addictive, it’s the **thousands of other chemicals and tar** in combustible cigarettes that cause most of the harm. Vaping removes the combustion—but that doesn’t mean it’s risk-free, especially with unregulated products or improper use.
